CHAPTER 27

“N ice going,” Ben says to all of us, but smiling at Temp.

“That’s part one done and dusted now for part two,” Ernest says, leaning into Adhan.

“Do you know what the infection spell does?” Kean asks, slipping his arm around me.

I lean into him. “Not a clue. We might need to open the front door and have a look-see. It could be anything from something like infecting the house with poison, killer spiders, anger, or hate. There’s no knowing.”

“Can either me or Temp use our magic to have a look-see?”

“You can if you’re careful,” I say to Ernest.

Ernest nods, and l see him look at Temp, who also nods. I then see both their magics move cautiously to the house and flow inside.

As we wait to find out what they learn, I lean further into Kean, who drops a kiss on the side of my head. “Thank you for calling,” he says.

I turn to look at him and smile. “Why wouldn’t I? Together, remember?”

He smiles. “Together.”

“Mind you, if I find out you did this just to make sure I move in with you, we’re gonna have words,” I say, smiling at him.

“Funny man. All I had to do was ask.”

“You’re moving in?” Ben says.

I look at him, unsure if he is happy about that or not. “Yes, so is Cassie. Do you mind?”

He smiles at me and shakes his head. “Why would I mind? It makes sense seeing as Temp and Kean are both already living there.”

Before I can reply, I feel Ernest and Temps magic coming back.

“Well that’s bizarre,” Ernest says.

“What did you find?” Cassie asks before I can.

“That everywhere is filled with anger and hate. We had to protect ourselves in there as we could feel it seeping into our magic,” Temp replies.

“I imagine if anyone goes in there, it will seep into you and that it will infect all of you, including your magic,” Ernest tells us.

“Can it be cleared out?” Cassie asks.

“It can. We have cleaners at the council whose job it is to go around and clear out negative emotions, energy, and spells. We have a few witches in town who specialise in energy work. I’ll contact them and see if they can help. But that does mean that until it’s sorted, we can’t go back in.” I look at Kean. “Looks like you’ll get your wish handsome. I’ll need to borrow some of your clothes.”

“I’ve more than enough to share with you.”

“What I don’t understand is why are you being targeted, Tie?” Ben asks. “Last time it was Ernest, and now you. Is it just because you come from old magical houses? I mean, I know your brother is involved, but is that the only reason? Or is there something else going on?”

“That is the question of the day,” I say. “I guess we’ll find out when we get to Little Welling and discover who’s behind this.”

“Let’s head back home. There’s nothing else we can do today. You guys look shattered,” Adhan tells us.
